Blogging vibes on super high right now, hence another entry hahaha! Figured it was time to get typing if not I really foresee Mount Everest-like entries to be drafted and typed. So how has your Chinese New Year been?
Two more days before the end of Chinese New Year and I've really enjoyed myself as always. Teehees have always enjoyed Chinese New Year since I was a young kiddo till now, though over the years certain stuffs has changed but I still love the festive season of feasting, gambling and feasting.
In the past when my gong gong & po po were still around, their house would always be the Changs first pit-stop. Coming from a Hainanese heritage, po po would religiously cook her famous Chicken Rice Ball from scratch alongside other Hainanese dishes. I admired her commitment to cook it for other every year without fail because we loved eating the rice balls and it was part of the tradition. Only till I was younger then I realized that in order for her to mould the rice ball, she had to use both her hands to squeeze and mould them while it was piping hot. But she still did them anyway (': her unconditional love for her family.
Okay, I'm starting to miss them both already :'(
However, when both of them passed away, my house became the first pit stop as my dad was the oldest. God blessed the cooking genes in the Chang family because my dad has a flair for cooking hence he continued the tradition of making Hainanese Chicken Rice for us. It's time I pick up the art and skill of Hainanese Chicken Rice so that I can continue the tradition too!
But ever since my dad took up the role of preparing the dish, I then realize the amount of effort and time taken to prepare everything. He started boiling the soup the day before and stayed up till 3AM to prepare the chicken stock etc. Not easy, full admiration for my daddy! DADDY WAN SUI!
After having lunch at my place, we'll drive down to my gong gong po po's house, where my grandaunt now lives alone, to pay her a visit and pass her food from lunch. After that, we'll all part ways to visit the maternal side of the family! This year, we stayed at popo's till late afternoon (which was later than usual) before heading over to my ah ma's. Played with the lil kiddos and had dinnz too! Super yummy pencai made by my aunt, yum yum in my tummy!
Second Day: We normally spend the second day either staying home to rest or head out individually to friend's place. So ever since last year, I spent my Day 2 @ Kai's. Kai came over to bainian (hehe I was so excited cause it was his first time!!) and had lunch before we went back to his place! Chilled at his place before his relatives came over. Had quite a few good rounds of playing Ban Luck (also known as 21 points).
Third Day: Went over to Godma's and met up with Godma's side of the family plus Aunty Joey as well! Super sweet of her to get me a birthday present hehe! Then in the evening, we headed to my aunt's (mummy's side) for steamboat dinnz! Surprisingly, my winning streak was really on form! HAHAHAHA never ever this lucky in my 20 years of life so all was really good hehe! All them money come to mama! Since it's once a year so gamble abit more nevermind lah!
Finally, tomorrow's Wednesday - Kai's last day of exams!! :D Can't wait to be back in my lover's arms and spend the rest of the entire week with him before he flies off! 11AM please come ASAP!
